VMWare challenges Google and Microsoft

We've always appreciated VMWare's solutions, especially since we moved to OS X and found VMWare Fusion. ESX was always the benchmark of enterprise virtulisation, but never really helped our customers, who were into transparent, large systems.

So colour us surprised today at VMWare's announcement of Cloud Foundry.

VMWare describes Cloud Foundry as “Platform-as-a-service” (PAAS). It support's multiple frameworks, cloud providers, and application services. This includes well known projects such as Spring (Java), Rails and Node.js (most exciting to us).

As well as hosting clouds themselves, VMWare are offering what they call a Micro Cloud, which is the same hosted environment for your own server.

We're really excited to see cloud offers such as this being provided, and we'll be sure to try this out as soon as we can.
